Refugee women & children face hardships and deportation risks in Malaysia

Assalmulaikum!

The kingdom of Malaysia has welcomed refugees from all over the world; despite finding safety, many struggle daily to secure their basic needs. Among them are over 50 Somalian refugee women, some of whom are upbringing orphans and live under harsh circumstances.

Already Collected 48%
Collected: $14,059
Goal: $30,000

Challenges:

If we fail to assist these women promptly, they will be compelled to work double shifts, significantly increasing their risk of exposure. As UN card holders, they are prohibited from working in the country, leaving them vulnerable to potential discovery by authorities and subsequent deportation to their devastated home countries at any moment. It is imperative that we act now to offer them the support they desperately need.

This community of Somalian women and children faces many challenges on a daily basis, including:

  • Securing food and basic living amenities
  • Accessing essential resources
  • Providing their children with school supplies and appropriate clothing
  • A rising cost of living
Qur’an:

Allaah S.W.T says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Worship Allaah and join none with Him (in worship), and do good to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, Al-Masaakeen (the poor), the neighbour who is near to kin, the neighbour who is a stranger, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (you meet), and those (slaves) whom your right hands possess. “Verily, Allaah does not like such as are proud and boastful.” – [al-Nisa’ 4:36]

The Only Job Available:

The only job available to these Somalian refugees is to work as house cleaners. In addition to working informally, they can only get a maximum of four jobs per week and only earn around $20 for a full day’s work. They lack health insurance, retirement plans, and work contracts.

Their Needs:

Their basic needs far outweigh their income. Many of these women are raising three to four children, and they must also pay rent, utilities, transportation, and school fees.

Our Goal:

In this campaign, we aim to provide $1,000 for each family. This will cover the following:

  • $200 for rent
  • $450 for three months of food essentials
  • $150 for UNHCR school fees for one child
  • $200 for transportation and utilities fees for one month
